I was thinking of old buildings and dust and echoes of what once was and the thought of ghosts that walk the old paths - well, you get the idea, anyway, this picture was the result.

Thanks - this picture has a lot of intentional odd things if you look, there are shadows which are not right as if they belong somewhere else and such. It was a fun picture to paint.

I challenged myself on this one to convey Tim's intent and my unique perception of the image with as much brevity as I could muster... Peering down on studied steps Measured in shadows swept She and dust - all that's left ...but I believe a poem should say something more than what anyone can say. Does it have that quality at all? Does it speak to you in some way?

Hi Molly, Yes, what a great tribute to Tim's haunting artwork. Really evokes the lonesomeness of the scene. Brigid

Thanks, Brigid. She seemed to be looking down to me, although it almost appears as if she is looking at a book. Do you wonder what it is? I might write more on this, as one of the thoughts that passed through my mind was wondering if she was aware of her ethereal state. Also, I wonder if this in an infrequently visited building, an abandoned building, or if it's merely empty because of the season or time of day.
Tim, what is the building modeled on? Where is the suggested locale?

The building was inspired by monastic architecture almost it is not an attempt to draw a monastery. I also wanted a hint of something middle eastern in it but just the slightest hint but mostly I wanted a feel that would be like Italy or France ... slightly exotic but not too exotic and with a sense of something old. I have often been up to the Abby in Mission BC and walked around so that would be the biggest influence although it is definitely not any of the buildings there.
