Hmm, eiken, very mysterious. Reminds me of the Orient Express...
At first, I was thinking that the train itself was making noise going by, then decided that the author must have been on the train (so it was only relatively "silent"). What happened with the pearls?
A lovely, rather sad and lonely image.

The train to where I live is a very quiet one, nobody talks or engages much and I was coming home from a day in Dublin one night recently with a few people in the same carriage, some whispering into mobiles and others reading. I was looking out the window, the bright evenings still with us, a joy. Then suddenly the clatter of beads on the floor, they were all over the carriage. I jumped and so did others, it was a shaking of the silence!! A girl, all dressed up going out somewhere obviously tried to collect them, her pearls, real ones! I helped her and I just found the sound really shook everyone in the deep silence of the carriage, just listening to the sound of the train on tracks, beads made a real racket.
