I am a radio amateur and am therefore familiar with Morse code so this little Haiku is great fun. The staccato dots and dashes of the Woodpecker's code generating beak shock us out of the calm of the early morning and pitch us sharply into the clatter of the day.
Nice one Brigid. .-- . .-.. .-.. / -.. --- -. .

Hi Neal and Dianne, Thanks for your comments on this. I love woodpeckers so was happy to be able to put one in a haiku. Just think if it was a woodpecker, instead of a raven at Poe's door...

I have only seen a woodpecker once in our life in Holland, beautiful bird but noisy and I can understand the code, he is saying Happy Christmas to you Brigid x
