The moon shines down upon us with it's light that's dim and cold The stars will hardly notice with their light that is so old
In a flaming chariot the sun rides 'cross the sky Yet it never pauses to see if we live or die
The universe is out there the universe is in But it doesn't really care who might lose or who might win
We stand among the elements have places in the stars But that means nothing more than does ours seats in parks or bars
These things don't tell you who you are they don't say where you go They can't guide what you should do or say what you should know
If you want to know just who you are don't look to sky or card or shelf The only place you'll find the truth is if you look within yourself

The imagery is so beautiful. Your words manage to feign nonchalance, despair and hope at the same time.

Thanks - it's been a while since I wrote anything, I tend to have periods when I write and then dry spells and for quite a while life was getting in the way of writing, so it's nice that someone enjoyed what I wrote. I hope you have been looking through the many poems this site holds - we have had a lot of great poems posted by many wonderful poets over the time the site has existed. Sadly at the moment there are not a lot of people logging on so we have a lack of new posts but I'm hoping that will start to change and in the mean time there are many gems to find

Ah, Tim, it's so great to see you back here. You definitely win the award for Most Faithful Poet. I think this is a new type of relativity theory...we are all so relatively small compared to the universe, and yet the thing we're seeking is so relatively BIG, and right here within us. I really enjoyed your words describing our place among the stars being no more important than our place in parks and bars. I love your sense of humor. Good job, my friend!

Yes, Tim, the tide is beginning to turn in favor of us all being a bit more active in the great Realm of Poetry. Not to mention the Realm of Life! Now, if you can only drag that Sweet Silver Bird back here, we'll really be back in business!

I make no promises as she is currently not feeling the best so it depends on how she feels but time will tell

Well, I for one am very glad that you stalwarts have continued to trudge uphill on stairways made of words, I've missed you guys and the community here.
Tim this for me was a wonderfully introspective piece that did not feel at all preachy or navel-gazing, but instead seemed a bit more conversational.
I really enjoyed it.

Thanks Reilley, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I was trying to keep it, hmmm, "light" doesn't seem quite right, but let's say, "non-preachy" - more just making observations and letting the thoughts connect themselves with as little guidance or planned direction as possible,

It has been a while since I wrote anything what with one thing and another. It is good to feel a bit of creativity coming back
