This poem was inspired by some of the people on a forum I once frequented. No reference to present company intended.
A-hem! Dearly beloved, we are gathered here together...
the oh-so-solemn traditionalists, whose poetry smiles not,
the love-so-true, sky-so-blue crowd,
the subtle ones who reach out, grab your heart and shake your psyche, with their streamlined genius--- their words tenderly polished, or cruelly pointed,
a brooding youngster or two, whose words amaze, even as they try to slink off the page, their tails between their legs,
the ones who come from the open wound school, whose pain pulls you in, every time, for an empathetic wallow,
a brilliant one or two who make you feel that you're not quite brilliant enough, to catch the tail of their high-flying kites,
and the one, missing the poetry step on the ladder of his DNA, who wanders in one day and starts splashing through the slow-moving currents of the poetry forum, with poetry so bad that even the harshest critic finds compassion lurking in his heart and refrains from making comment...
We all come together here in search of that elusive perfect turn of a phrase--- the sweet embrace of poetry our innocent pursuit.

I like this a lot. As a frequenter of several online writing groups, lists, and forums I often wonder at the many personalities I meet.
I've written a similar poem (which I will not post just now because I do not wish to compete with the wonderful job you have done here) and i share your enthusiasm for these poetic spirits.
Well done, keep writing!

Hi Reilley. Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad you're going to give me a moment in spotlight with my poetry poem. I notice in looking back over old posts, that you've written quite a few on the subject. I think the only thing more fascinating to us than the love of another human, is the love of words and poetry. I'm happy to be here among like-minded people.

Hi Cory, Welcome to the forum. I have not been around for a long while but will try to join in a little every now and then. I am Irish and I love words too, particularly the short form poetry of Tanka and Haiku. I enjoyed this, it was gentle and quite kind in tone because I too have been on a few forums and wondered about the people I have met, some who were so arrogant, others very two faced, full of sweet talk that did not help my writing one bit. I have only met one or two who truly helped me as a novice which I think is one of the aims of these forums and I try to give back a little and not get too caught up in the personalities. It becomes some people's lives which is not good. I finally weaned myself away from all forums due to health issues and am now just posting and writing when I have a bit of time. Hope you enjoy this forum. The people are genuine here, I like it a lot.

Oh my! I enjoyed this. I think we've all met poets who flirt with each of the categorizations you've mentioned. It's interesting to see real people emerge from the written page, fleshing themselves out for us, little by little, just through the strength of their words.
Cory, I think I know you pretty well!
BTW, eiken, thank you for your kind comments about this forum. You are definitely one of the most genuine people I've ever had the privilege to get to know.
