I am assuming (I hope correctly!) that this is the place where we post poems. I proceed on that assumption.
My mother-in-law, Marie, died one week ago. She was 93, and had suffered with Alzheimer's Disease for the last 15 years or so of her life. This was written as a tribute to her. She was indeed an angel. I photo-shopped the text as an overlay on a photo of her, printed it in 20x16 inch size, framed it and we put it on an easel at her wake.
An Angel Flew To Heaven Today
An Angel flew to heaven today
a smile on her face.
She gathered up her memories
now wrapped in silk and lace,
and hid them in a secret place
for this journey now through space,
where friendly hands reach out for her
in welcoming embrace.
An Angel flew to heaven today,
waving fond goodbyes.
So many friends and family,
once to her so very dear,
later not so very clear,
but now coming back to her
as she travels through the sky -
memories recalled again -
the who; the why;
the what; the when.
Tears of happiness escape
from awakened eyes.
An Angel flew to heaven today:
her world now returns.
What had been lost is now renewed,
jumbled thoughts now imbued
with strength again,
with clarity,
with faithful friends,
familiar things and family
recognized, re-organized:
a door ajar in forgotten room.
It opens now: she looks inside.
And what was old now is new,
crisp and fresh and pretty too.
All is well: her journey's through.
And heaven's doors now open wide:
an Angel's here with brand new wings.

For some reason, I cannot make the link work up above. If you'd like to see it in the frame, you can go to my blog page which you might have to copy and paste into a browser: http://www.danielmarkpicturepoems.com
When you get to my site, you can click the picture to make it bigger so it is visible. There are both long and short versions of the poem there.
Also, I just discovered that if you click my signature line (http://www.danielmarkpicturepoems.com) in small text under the line below, it works as a link.
