One Day
One day, I'm going to write the kind of poem That conforms to the norm and yet breaks all the rules That's studied by pupils at all the best schools That's a reason to love and a reason to cry That's read out in church when it's our turn to die That's used by great leaders in powerful speeches That touches the soul of the person it reaches That says so much more than a thousand apologies That's chosen to feature in lots of anthologies That gets my name mentioned in the book of 'Who's Who' But until that day comes, will this poem do?

Yes, John, this poem will do quite nicely! You have a great gift, not only for rhyming, but for humor. I enjoy your work!

Oh yes! Don't we all. It's not to so much to be published, but to be remembered. I just love your writing John. I'm very much looking forward to more to come.

Absolutely! It is the wanting to leave something behind to justify your existence here on Earth. I would love to think that one day my son would read my poems to his children.

Bravo, John, well written and so very true. Like Brigid said, you have a gift for verse, keep it up. One minor thing I should tell you, try limiting your posted poem to one or two a day, otherwise we may not all get the chance to read them, savor them, appreciate and comment on them, and I do not want you to feel like they are not reaching us. I did the same thing when I first found this community and some poems got lost in the shuffle. Your mileage may vary.

Thanks, Reilley, for pointing out to John about not posting a slew of poems at the same time. While I love his enthusiasm for the forum, as well as his work, I had already sent him a PM on the subject. And, John, I really appreciate your understanding AND the fact that you have increased your level of interaction with other poets here. You are an asset to this forum (as is Chris Reilley, of course!)

Hi John,
Well, you've done it again. A very engaging, fun poem. I'm working on the sort of poem described too! Enjoyed this.

Nicely penned and nicely put, I believe you captured a bit of what drives all of us to write in the first place. To connect, to inspire or just to validate ones own thoughts. I am on my way to hunt down this "slew" of poems that I may have missed....I am curious and excited because now it feels like a treasure hunt!
