mind dancing a
dark daydream maze
just out the corner
of my eye
the problem
i circle
til i'm weary
(btw, i don't title my poems, perhaps because i am new to publishing them in any form, so don't derive anything from my subject title, for now)

I'd say that many poets don't title their poems - just look at how many classic poems use the first line as the title I like your style - I tend to be more into the longer sorts of poems but I can still appreciate a short poem that captures a thought or feeling and I find the poems I have read so far of yours do that well.

well i never got on the twitter bandwagon til VERY recently, and it was easy for me to write small poems there. so i have been practicing that. BEFORE that i had taken a very long hiatus, 10 years. i still jotted little stuff down sometimes, but that's it. i think it was because i felt discouraged about writing a "poem". a "real" one, a long one now, i am realizing that it may just be my style for the most part. i am the same way with visual art; i don't do the long drawn out thing. maybe i will branch out the more i participate here. twitter MAKES me keep it short! i've been keeping a notepad with me. time will tell. just getting my sea legs at the moment!

Let your heart guide you and don't let anyone - not a teacher/scholar/expert and not a friend/family member - discourage you. If there is one thing I have learned in life it is that you need to follow your dreams and not listen to anyone who stands in the way, it doesn't matter if they are well meaning or not. What gives your heart joy is worth it and it does not matter if it is good or if it will even be good, the joy it gives you is enough reason. ANd you will find that when you follow your heart and don't worry about it, generally you'll find that you produce things a lot better than anyone [yourself included] ever expected. So if short is your thing - go for it. But if you find that you start liking longer stuff, don't shy away from that either. And always remember - if you like it, there are enough people in this world that someone else is sure to also like it [and maybe a lot more people than you expect]

Hi Kara, I too like your poems, though you can tell from some of my comments on other poems that I sometimes have a hard time understanding things that seem to be more metaphorical; that is to say, I am sometimes uncomfortable trying to guess at meaning. But I am working at becoming more comfortable with it. It's my affliction to like things laid out clearly. Anyway, you seem to have a very sensitive mind and heart, and you capture things well, and express them well. I like Tim's (Fire Monkey) comments too: there is a lot of wisdom in there for all of us. Sincerely, Dan

Like you, I got into poetry looking for witty or genius in brevity. Brigid is a big fan of haiku, that delicate twist of arranged word petals, I bet you would rock the haiku, dude. Keep writing, Tim is right, life is too short for doubts and might-have-beens. Grab it, twist it, and hold on. Your mileage may vary.
