I'm posting here now to avoid confusion since my art is not photo manipulation - it is traditional art that just happens to be drawn on a computer using a mouse - but it is still drawn just as if I was using a paint brush and canvas.

I've posted my take on whether this is "traditional" or "digital" here: poetry-here-and-now.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=chat&thread=179&page=1To my way of thinking, Tim, your artwork is digital because it cannot be produced without using a computer. However, if you are happier posting in this section, go for it. With regard to the artwork here---I guess I'm weird because I feel about chimps the same way I feel about clowns---they creep me out---so this would not be one of my favorites of yours! Brigid

I wouldn't say that what do couldn't be done without a computer - I'm not doing anything with my computer that can not be done with a paint brush, etc - although there is digital art which uses things that require a computer, I'm not doing that type of thing
Mostly, I don't want people thinking I'm doing photo manipulation when I am drawing just like I would with a pencil or paint brush - to me, art that is done from scratch is the same whether done on a computer or a canvas, etc. Art that is done by photo manipulation is the same as traditional collage type art where photos or images not created b the artists hand are used as the base for something creative done b the artist. Both valid forms of art but it isn't the use of a computer or lack of one that makes the distinction. Just like this picture - there was no photograph or other image used to create this - it's hand drawn. ;D
Now if there was a digital art category and a photo manipulation category then I would go for the digital art - it's just hard to spend 12 or 14 hours drawing something totally from your imagination and have people think you took a photograph and ran it trough a few filters. Nothing against photo manipulation but it isn't the same thing.
Sorry you are creeped out by chimps - I'm personally fond of them though I can sort of understand why some people aren't.

I honor what you say. Although, as stated elsewhere, much of my artwork would not easily fit in any of these categories.
Just, fyi, I modified this post from the original, deleting most of it because I decided the discussion should move elsewhere. See below.

I think it is always hard to put creative work of any kind into neat boxes - for example, an Anime series I watched, called Trigun, is a western set of another planet with a main character who survives through unnatural luck - so is it a western or SF or Fantasy or what? Same thing in music - many songs are not folk or western or pop or rock, etc - and the same goes for classing different media of art. Creation tends to blur the lines.

We've wandered far off the topic of your image here and with references in another thread, so I moved the discussion piece by piece to a new thread in the Community Chat forum... Categorizing. Now that I've done so, it is up to you whether you choose to delete the original comments where as posted they do not directly relate to the original thread.
