Alas my mind went wandering Indulged in some vague pondering 'Til its little eye upon a quirky snippet fell.
So rolling it round to try and taste The sound, my thoughts began to waste The rhythm and the sound of it repeated all too well.
'Round the edges of my thoughts it niggles Relentlessly upsets and wiggles Insidiously taking over as its self importance swells.
Occasionally it outs itself That oh-so-snarky little elf From the quiet of my mind and that self repeating hell.
And friends will quietly veer away Afraid they know just what I'll say Earworm, DAMN you earworm, clattering through my mind pell-mell.

Love the rhythm, reminds me of the raven challenge, the persistence and insistence, the drive, the need, makes me wanna write. ;D

Hiya Heather, Very cute! I must admit, I had never heard the term "earworm" before so I had to Google it. Now that I know it means a scrap of music that goes round and round in one's mind, I can really relate. "These Are A Few of My Favorite Things" must have run through my mind about a zillion times over the last ten years or so. I'm not quite getting the last stanza though. If it's a scrap of song or a tune that's going round and round, how would that effect what your friends think you would say? Or, are you saying that this particular "earworm" is an obsessive thought that your tend to express out loud? Other than that little question, I thought this quite charming (and oh-so-true!)

Earworms have a way of causing inadvertent humming. This makes them highly contagious as they invariably get out in the air and proliferate... It's possible it might benefit from a stanza between to make that more obvious though. Thanks!

I really like this one - I have often found myself troubled by an earworm and I know what you mean about it sometimes getting out - almost as if it was a virus spreading itself to everyone around. I think you captured it well.
