OK, reluctant haiku-ers! Here's a challenge for you! Write a haiku about coffee. Remember, "modern" haiku consist of three lines with 5-7-5 syllables, or fewer. The challenge is to say what you love (or hate) about coffee in three very short lines! Here's mine:
I fill my cup with coffee black and steaming now day begins

Hi Dianne, I like it---caffeine can often lead to excessive chatter. Thanks for participating. BTW, you're not limited to one entry in the challenge. Brigid

Hi Tim and eiken, Thanks for your great entries. I really appreciate both points of view. So much so, in fact, that I'm headed for the kitchen right now to put on another pot! Brigid

OK, this isn't really a haiku---too many syllables in the last line---but I simply couldn't resist!
"Donuts"* may have made Crystal's brown eyes blue but coffee turned my blue ones brown!
*A tribute to Crystal Gayle's great "Don't it Turn My Brown Eyes Blue", which some people thought was "Donuts..."

Cute - I wouldn't worry about the extra syllables. ;D

Brigid, That is just beautiful, I love your eyes turning from blue to brown lol. Can just imagine it and I get that from SSB's poem where God's eyes reflected blue/green. So inspirational working together here online. I would love a donut right now Must go make some more tea, we are avid tea drinkers here. Coffee is very popular too, it is hubby's drink, I prefer my tea. When I was visiting Sarah in Madrid, the request from her was for me to bring a big box of Barry's tea, her favourite Irish tea. We are tea addicts

eiken, You are so awesome. I feel like I could just pull up a chair and join you for a nice cup of tea, being careful, of course, not to sit on Athena, the cat! Yeah, donuts are great. Perhaps we should have a donut haiku challenge? Want to start it on another thread? Brigid

Coffee cup steaming -- Hot aroma pervading the crisp morning air.
I'm really happy to see this challenge. I thought a few weeks ago of writing a poem about coffee and couldn't think of anything at the time.
This Haiku challenge may well prove to be a good stepping stone.
Thanks, Brigid.
