Ok, this is a picture of my cat Kitra taken with my cell phone camera - I had been posting on a forum when there was a knock at my front door and when I got back, this was what I found: The challenge is to write a poem inspired by this photo - you can deal with it in real terms or you can treat it as proof that cat's surf the web or whatever seems right. I'll even read the poems to Kitra and see what she thinks about them ;D [you never know, she understands some of what is said to her, maybe she understands enough to understand a poem - or not, if I can insist that my avatar is a real picture of me then I can claim Kitra posts on the internet ;D]

cat takes advantage of Tim's conditioned response to visit "chat"* room *I'm sure you all know what the French word "chat" means in English. In case you don't, well...

I love it - the "chat"-"cat" connection was clever and the poem is fun. No doubt that Kitra has be well trained ;D Kitra likes it too - she is a very chat-ty cat

I love this photo - wow, simply great! I have my tortoiseshell cat Athena lying next to me here as I write. This is my contribution.

Also a good poem for this - Kitra is here with me as I type, but her main thing is to try and lay her head on the keyboard and look at the screen so I have to pet her head in such a way as to keep it out of the way or I can't type and I can't see the screen - of course that means I have to type 1 handed. Luckily she always comes from the left of the computer even tough she could sit on either side. ;D

Thanks Fire Monkey, thank you for the fun challenge. Athena gets up every so often to give me a head butt to remind me that she is here next to me. They are amazing to watch, she is so happy it makes me happy.

My dear friends,
I can't tell you how delighted I am to be so surrounded by cat people. You guys are all awesome. And Tim, "Kitra" is one of the most unique and apropos names I've ever heard for a cat. I loved your little Kitra ditty on another thread, also love that you call yourself her Daddy.
Also, thanks for this great challenge!
love ya,
Brigid

I have always felt that Kitra is part of the family along with my daughters - SweetSilverBird has a cat and I when I talk ith her cat I call myself Uncle Tim ;D Cats and other pets are a part of people's families and e are certainly their whole family so I feel that we should acknowledge that in little ways. I don't know how much a cat understands of what we say but I o know they understand something because their actions demonstrate it, so I act as if the understand everything even though I don't think they do because that way, I give them everything they do understand.

I am so glad you are all cat people too. I speak to Athena like she is human, we chat about everything and she loves to help me in the garden. She follows me to the neighbours to say hello, she is like my shadow. Her hairs are all over my laptop, she seems to be shedding a lot at the moment so I am surrounded by white hairs, I have to remember not to wear black lol. So many have left my home after a coffee with white hairs all over their black trousers My sister has two dogs, small ones and we speak to one another in doggy/cat talk. When we email, we send wishes from my cat to her dogs and Maisie and Pip are brothers and sisters to Athena when we chat. We even have the animals on skype when we chat, the dogs know my voice and Athena knows my sisters voice, it is so amazing how we connect with our animals. It certainly brings me closer to my sister.

I have often wished that I could be telepathic for a while just so I could see for real what thoughts cats and dogs have rather than interpreting them from a human view.

I'm loving these stories about techno-cats and dogs on skype, etc. Tim, it doesn't really matter what the critters think as long as they love us, right? I know some people think I'm crazy for thinking that animals "love" but, if they don't, some of them can certainly give very convincing imitations! Paws up for Kitra and Athena! Brigid

It is hard to say just how intelligent they are or how much of what we say they actually understand but there is no question at all that they love. It's just human egocentricity that makes people think that only we have emotions - what a silly idea, of course they do and I think in many ways their emotions are purer because they don't get all caught up in the silliness of human social rules and such.

I agree with Tim and Brigid, cats do show love and how wonderful that feels. I love when Athena is kneading next to me, her purr is so loud, it soothes me. She is a very calming influence on me. She loves the kitchen table made of cherry wood. She started using one part as a scratching post, I have given up being cross with her, I have offered up the table. One day, we will sit down to eat and the table will collapse from her handy work lol. Next table will have to be steel.

Good one, Judy! Very clever. I'm really enjoying hearing about all the pampered pussycats. Salt and Pepper---great names. eiken, I love that you're going to replace the table rather than the cat! Brigid

Very nice - Kitra is fond of tuna and chicken - well, any bird will do ;D she really likes turkey legs - not the whole leg of course, that is almost as big as her, though she would be happy to give it a try if I let her. I always tell people that I think she orders catnip online.... ;D
