I'm looking for a couple of good people who want to lend a hand here on the forum. A moderator should be a person committed to this forum and its success, not just interested in posting his or her own work. In order for the forum to survive and actually thrive, there should be lively and ongoing interaction among forum members. I'm beginning to see that happen here and am very excited about the forum's prospects.
A moderator's main function is to keep up on what's being posted here on the forum and offering critique or comment on the work of other members. Ideally, moderators should be interested enough in all areas of the forum to offer comments, even if those areas may not be the moderators' main focus.
I would hope that each moderator would offer at least seven comments per week on the work of other people. Ideally, that number would be much higher. Comments should be meaningful and halpful rather than limited to "I like it" or "good job", but they need not be line-by-line in-depth critiques.
Another way a moderator can help this forum thrive is by posting tweets on Twitter (or posting on other social media such as Facebook) that link back to this forum. If you want to see an example of what I've been doing to get the interest level up here, go to my Twitter profile (www.twitter.com and put @poetshereandnow in the search box) and then click on the "Tweets" link on my profile page and look at the sort of thing I post. At least two of our most recently joined active members have come from reading my tweets. This would not be a requirement, however it would be helpful if mods (or any member with a Twitter presence) would do this, at least occasionally. The more we get the word out, the better the forum will be.
Moderators need not worry about settling any disputes which may arise (none have so far!) Should that sort of thing occur, I will be the one who deals with it. Moderators should, however, alert me when anything arises that may require my attention as forum administrator.
Moderators are my sounding board for new ideas or situations where I feel I need a bit of friendly advice. Fire Monkey and Sweet Silver Bird have been invaluable to me over the years as my strong right hands.
There are several of you who I believe have the potential to be great moderators and I'm wondering if you might be thinking the same thing.
Two of our four moderators (DustandWater and DianneT) are no longer active on the forum, but will retain their titles out of respect for the many contributions they made to this forum. I'm looking to create two more moderator positions, so, if you think you have the time and interest level required to fill one of those positions, please send me a PM. I'm not going to be making any decision right away, but let me know anyway, if you think you might like to be part of the Mod Squad.
Thanks!
Brigid
