Take a Seat
"Come in! Come in!" she said, "and do, please, take a seat."
I was tempted by the plumpness of her comfy three piece suite.
But chose, instead, a dining chair both elegant and light.
I picked it up and left the room whilst bidding her goodnight.

Hi John,
This is really cute. You have a great sense of poetic humor. The cartoon goes with the poem quite well too. Which comes first, the poem or the picture?
I enjoyed this.

Thank you for the comments. The poem always comes first and then the picture. Sadly, the picture is not one of mine. I wrote a picture book once about funny animal, for my son, but struggled when it came to illustrating it for him! Two of the characters are Minkey the Monkey and Snook the Snake. I will post their poems here for you to have a look at. Hope you like them.

So far, John, I like all your poetry. Your turn of thought is very unique, and can be quite delightful!

"So far, John, I like all your poetry." No pressure then Sweet Silverbird. Why do people seldom use their real name on the site?

Why do people seldom use their real name on the site? I have to say that I have always found this to be the oddest of questions, one which I have heard since the days of dial-up BBSes - a name is simply an identifier and unless someone is world famous, how would their "real name" identify them to you better than a name they chose specifically for some reason? I mean, why did Marion Morrison almost never use his real name? If he did would it have meant more to anyone than John Wayne? Or what about Arnold Dorsey? Would that somehow mean more than Engelbert Humperdinck? For most people here, if I use Timothy Emil Birch, it would not identify me any better than Fire Monkey, which is a name I chose and therefore one which has personal meaning for me. In general though, most people here are not hiding their name [so far as I know], just using names which they identify with. After all, no matter how I sign a post, it is what I say in the post that counts and my comments are as meaningful or meaningless, as useful or useless no matter what the name on my account. So whether I am Fire Monkey or Tim Birch, my thoughts on your poem remain the same and those should be what matter.

Like you, I was merely expressing an opinion in asking the question. No offence was intended.

No offense was taken. It is a question I have heard often over the last 30 years. To me, a name is a very significant thing - but Fire Monkey IS my name, as much as Tim Birch is. The one was given to me by my parents and I am proud of it but it says nothing of who I am, the other is chosen by me and speaks to who I am in many ways. But as I say, the most important things are the poems and the comments on them. That should be the focus in these threads - but perhaps the question of names might be worth a poem or two to start new threads with
