Mine is not to question why? but for some reason I thought why not a poem about the word finicky. It's such a strange looking word to me... anyway...I haven't written one yet...so I thought what about a challenge to write a poem about Finicky or maybe a word you think looks or sounds strange? Just a thought.

Excellent idea, Dianne. The first thing that comes to mind when the word finicky is mentioned, is one or more of my cats. I'm sure it won't be too hard to come up with a poem on that topic (provided it doesn't have to rhyme!). I'll get back to you.

OK, here's my entry into the Finicky Derby. Doesn't anyone else want to come out and play on this Fourth of July weekend?
Finicky
She’s young and beautiful, quite full of herself as she sashays into the room wearing her exquisite fur coat of many colors, a stunner for sure.
She will lift her sweet face to me and arch her back in response to the touch of my hand, and purr her pleasure as I admire her.
But, unless I offer her tuna, carefully dissected into delicate morsels, she will surely turn her back and wave good-by with her plumed tail, Candy, the finicky cat.

A nice first entry to this challenge - I think perhaps I can manage something on the topic - let me see what I can come up with.

Good one Brigid...yes the world finicky is a great word to describe cats and their meal decisions. Or should I say our meal decisions for them. I am still working on mine, letting it mull around my head still...it's harder than I thought.

Here you go - not as long as I thought it would be, but I think it works ;D Finicky Felicia from Fredericton furrowed her furry forehead for food not fancy enough for her taste refusing, with that, to be fed! Forlorn as she fussed and she frumped up her tail she flounced as she fled from the line of dishes of food she felt were not right that finicky furry feline. Ok, I just recorded this as a Boo

Excellent Fire Monkey, very enjoyable, this has been quite fun! I went with a bit of limerick type poem myself. Finicky And pernickety They go well together Pernickety And finicky Are clickety together Finicky And pernickety Are particular in what they choose Pernickety And finicky Never want to lose Finicky And pernickety They keep me ill at ease Pernickety And finicky Are too bloody hard to please All though it's not about pussycats I am sure there must be a dynamic duo out there in the world with these names. I booed too...such a copycat ;D audioboo.fm/boos/403758-finicky-and-pernickety

Finicky Freda and her fine friend Fussy Fanny liked playing naughty tricks on their favorite nanny,
like declining to lunch on the meals that were made or refusing to to wear the dresses she had laid,
and finding fault with the choices that they were given, until their sweet nanny was quite finally driven
to fits of frustration, fuming, and finally picque With wildness to her eyes, and scarlet on her cheek.
And only after nanny's fury was spent and grown cold Would the two naughty girls finally do as they were told.

Fire Monkey, Dianne and Reilley, You have risen awesomely to meet the challenge of a Finicky poem. FM and Dianne, your spoken word versions are a treat. Reilley, when are you going to take the plunge and "boo" along with us? (See the links in FM's and Dianne's posts). Dianne, this is one of the best challenges we've had lately. P.S. I think it's interesting that in the U.S. the other word mentioned by Dianne is "per Snickety, rather than pernickety. Apparently the original "pernickety" came from Scotland and was altered by Americans about a century ago.

Yes, this has been a fun challenge. I think all the poems have been fabulous. I too think Reilley should take the challenge, his finicky poem would be great as a spoken word on boo!
Fire Monkey Where the Wild Things Are is my all time favourite story. I loved the movie too and l have a huge mural of a scene from the book on my lounge room wall, that I painted as a gift for myself.
Thank you Brigid on the history of the word pernickety, it makes sense that it's Scottish, my mum and dad used it all the time. I think some really cool words came out of Scotland.

better late then never? Here's my go at it:
finicky --------------------------------------------------------------- out there it's all eat the boneless banquet for one, teeth screeching through the fat tumour on the chicken's thigh,
right, so it's all shredded flesh and lettuce, skinny lemon, dark secretions, clam shell burger box, and a trillion magazine triangles;
yeah, and it's all empty the dog where urchins boot balls, where bonkers barefoots sup cider and ask for exactly ten pence;
yeah, but up your mum's it's all take your shoes off, don't touch the walls, keep your fiddly fingers off, disinfect everything, take pride in your rim block, plug in the freshmatic refill and never touch a germy soap pump again.

Oh they are nicely ripe, but the slugs just seem to take a bit out and move on, which suits me fine as I'm happy to share (I know, I'm weird but I love slugs and snails), but I do want some of the harvest! Anyway, it was what came to mind when I saw the word finicky.

I loved reading all of these, amazing work from everyone. Just incredible what one word can do. I too thought of a cat immediately when I read the word or a person who is difficult to feed, it relates to food really. Wonderful.
